Earlier this year, it was rumored that Facebook could be looking to develop a newsletter platform aimed at writers and journalists who needed a way to distribute their work. If that was something you might have been interested in, then you’ll be pleased to learn that Facebook has since launched Bulletin.

According to Facebook, “Our unique ability to help talented people find and connect with the audiences and markets they need to flourish gives independent journalism a greater opportunity to thrive. The popularity of our local Groups and Pages has shown us that people are hungry for locally-relevant, longer-form content produced by expert and authoritative voices.”

So what makes Bulletin different from creating your own Facebook Page or Group? According to Facebook, creators will have their own standalone website that they can customize to their liking. The articles they write can also contain multi-media embeds. It will also be a standalone product meaning that while it will leverage some of Facebook’s tools and features, it won’t exist inside of Facebook itself and will live outside of the Facebook app.

Right now, Bulletin isn’t open to everyone just yet and Facebook will be testing it out with a select handful of authors and journalists, but we expect that this should change over time.
