Apple has introduced wireless charging to its devices like the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch, and come 2022, that could also include the iPad Pro. As it stands, Apple’s iPad Pros charge using USB-C, which is fine, but we imagine that some users would prefer not having to deal with cables at all.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, that might change in 2022 where the iPad Pro could finally gain wireless charging capabilities. The report claims that in order to support wireless charging, Apple is looking into introducing a glass back instead of aluminum. This would make it similar to the design of the iPhone, which for the past few years has utilized a glass back to facilitate wireless charging.

However, the report does warn that Apple isn’t necessarily sold on the idea of a wireless charging iPad and that things could change by the end of the year. Should this be a thing, we expect that Apple will most likely continue to use MagSafe as its wireless charger of choice, although given the iPad’s larger battery, it might need to be capable of putting out more juice otherwise it might take too long for it to be useful.

In addition to a wireless charging iPad Pro, the report had also suggested that Apple is continuing their research into true wireless charging technology that would do away with the need for wireless charging pucks, surfaces, or pads.
