We have been hearing that WhatsApp is working to bring multi-device support to the app. Right now, the app only supports one device (not counting the web version) simply because it is linked to your phone number, but multi-device support means that you can use the app on more devices at once, like the iPad.

However, more details about multi-device support have been discovered by WABetaInfo, where based on what they found, multi-device support is limited to one phone at a time. What does this mean? This means that in addition to supporting PCs and tablets, you can only link WhatsApp to one phone at a time, so you can’t have two phones that share the same WhatsApp account.

That being said, we suppose this kind of makes sense, why would you want to receive the same WhatsApp message on two phones at the same time? Receiving it on the PC makes sense because you can reply to messages without having to use your phone. Receiving on a tablet also makes sense because if your phone isn’t with you, you still have an option at replying to messages.

Now, we’re not sure if this one phone at a time is a limit of the beta of multi-device support or if it will be a limitation of the feature in general, but either way it’s good that multi-device support is in the works and hopefully it’ll be available to all users soon.
