As many of you know, YouTube has a subscription tier called YouTube Premium, but it seems that the company is experimenting with the idea of a cheaper option called Premium Lite. This is according to a post made3 on ResetEra by user jelmerjt, where they discovered the option when they tried to cancel their Premium subscription.

According to the post, “This is pretty interesting. I just tried to cancel my YouTube Premium sub and now Google is telling me about Premium Lite. Costs 6,99 euros per month (instead of 11,99 euros for Premium) and simply gives you an ad-free YouTube experience. So you don’t get any of the other Premium features.”

Basically you would be paying just to remove ads, whereas with the Premium subscription, you would get an ad-free viewing experience along with an ad-free YouTube Music listening experience, background playback, and offline downloads. We have to say that even at its price, it still feels a bit expensive just to remove ads.

In any case, right now it seems to be a test limited to certain parts of the world, but we imagine that if all goes well, YouTube should eventually expand the program to cover more markets, so keep an eye out for it if it’s something you might be interested in.
