While Apple seems to be on a roll hiring engineers and experts from car companies, it looks like Apple might have attracted enough talent where they are now seen as being primed for being poached themselves. In an announcement from Ford, the company has revealed that they have hired Doug Field.

For those unfamiliar, Field had come to work for Apple back in 2018 where he had previously held a position at Tesla where he oversaw the development of electric vehicles for the company. Clearly this was a big win for Apple back then since Field’s area of expertise was kind of what the company wanted to do (or so the rumors claimed).

However, over the years development on Apple’s rumored electric car has hit various road bumps, ultimately resulting in Apple moving development to another division. It is possible that these delays and setbacks could have helped Field make an easier decision to leave the company for Ford, but that’s just our speculation.

According to Ford President/CEO Jim Farley, “Doug is one of the world’s most respected engineering and product design leaders and has been a driving force behind breakthrough products across auto, tech and mobility, including at Apple, Tesla and Segway.”

He adds, “His talent and commitment to innovation that improves customers’ lives will be invaluable as we build out our Ford+ plan to deliver awesome products, always-on customer relationships and ever-improving user experiences. We are thrilled Doug chose to join Ford and help write the next amazing chapter of this great company.”
