There are mounts designed for motorcycles where it allows the rider to place their phone in. This is a great way for riders to use apps like Google Maps to find their way around a city, or if they’re a delivery person picking up and delivering orders. However, it turns out that these mounts might be more detrimental than useful, if you care about your phone’s camera.This is because according to a report from Apple’s Support Page, the company claims that the vibrations caused by the motorcycle during operations could actually result in the iPhone’s camera degrading over time. According to Apple, this is because of the tech behind the camera’s stabilizing feature, like the gyroscope, for example.
Apple says, “However, as is the case with many consumer electronics that include systems like OIS, long-term direct exposure to high-amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges may degrade the performance of these systems and lead to reduced image quality for photos and videos.”
They add, “High-power or high-volume motorcycle engines generate intense high-amplitude vibrations, which are transmitted through the chassis and handlebars. It is not recommended to attach your iPhone to motorcycles with high-power or high-volume engines due to the amplitude of the vibration in certain frequency ranges that they generate.”
So if you happen to ride a motorcycle that has an iPhone mount, then maybe you might want to rethink this. We’re not sure if this applies to other smartphone brands and models, but it might be something worth thinking about just to be safe.
