As per the rumors, it looks like Apple has officially announced the third-gen AirPods at the company’s Unleashed event. Sure enough, it looks like the rumors were also right about the design of the earphones. The stems have been shortened and the earbuds now look a bit more like the AirPods Pro.

We wouldn’t say that it looks exactly like the AirPods Pro, but it definitely looks different from its predecessor. Apart from the external design, Apple claims to have redesigned the internals of the earphones.

It will feature a new low distortion driver and will support features that were previously found on the AirPods Pro. This includes spatial audio and adaptive EQ, the latter of which can automatically adjust the frequencies so you can listen to music as the artist intended. Apple has also announced that the new third-gen AirPods will feature both sweat and water resistance, so you can use it during a workout and not worry about your sweat damaging it.

Apple has also improved on the battery life of the AirPods where it will now feature 6 hours of listening time. Users can also charge it for five minutes to give it an hour of listening time, and its charging case will give users a total of 30 hours. Speaking of the charging case, it looks like Apple has adapted MagSafe to the new AirPods, so you can charge it on the same MagSafe system that Apple uses for its iPhones.

The third-gen AirPods is priced at $179 and pre-orders are live today and are expected to begin shipping out to customers next week.
