Microsoft’s OneDrive is essentially the company’s answer to other cloud storage services like Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, and so on. If you are using the service and app on your computer, then you might want to take note of the fact that the app will stop syncing with Windows 7 and 8 computers come March 2022.

This doesn’t mean that Windows 7 or 8 users will no longer be able to use the service in March 2022, but rather the app will stop syncing on their computers which means that it basically loses one of the features that makes cloud storage so useful.

According to Microsoft, “In order to focus resources on new technologies and operating systems, and to provide users with the most up-to-date and secure experience, beginning January 1, 2022, updates will no longer be provided for the OneDrive desktop application on your personal Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 devices.”

“Personal OneDrive desktop applications running on these operating systems will stop syncing to the cloud on March 1, 2022. After March 1st, 2022, your personal files will no longer sync and should be uploaded/accessed directly on OneDrive for web.” We imagine that this is Microsoft’s way of encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11, so if you still use Windows 7 or 8, it might be time to consider upgrading.
