CES 2022 is ending, and it’s time to nominate what we deem to be the best, most innovative, and enthusiastic products of CES that we’ve looked at up close or experienced hands-on. In no order:
TCL LEINIAO XR Glasses Concept
Consumer Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the hottest trends in technology, and yet we’re still waiting for it to materialize in the market substantially. TCL’s LEINIAO XR Glasses Concept brings a full-color high-resolution display in a highly compact form factor. We found the display to be very readable (therefore useful). It’s not yet a product, but the company hopes to soon bring it to the market.
NVIDIA’s Omniverse platform is rapidly becoming the platform with the most potential for efficiently building virtual worlds, digital twins, and other 3D projects. Omniverse’s potential for collaborative workflows is enormous and therefore holds the most potential to benefit from a network effect if/when Creators flock in. Omniverse solves complex content-creation workflow issues that previously required expensive custom solutions.
Razer Project Sophia
What if the ultimate desktop gaming PC was literally your desk? Razer’s Project Sophia is a concept computer whose chassis is a futuristic-looking desk. The idea is bold, the modular components, and the whole package looks fantastic if it becomes a product. Given Razer’s track record, there’s a decent chance to see this in gamers’ room soon.
AMD Ryzen 6000 Series for laptops
AMD’s new Ryzen 6000 series processors are ready for a new 2022 first-half PC cycle. They are fast and power-efficient at all price points, and PC OEMs support this new technology as new laptop designs were announced in parallel. More importantly, all-AMD CPU+GPU combos get extra performance for die-hard AMD fans.
Intel 12th Gen Core H-Series CPUs
Intel continues its strong comeback with its 12th generation Core processor design. At CES, the powerful mobile Core H-Series makes its debut as laptop designs are announced one after the other. The peak performance seems excellent, but we’re even more excited about the prospect of longer battery life. We can’t wait to see this platform’s real-world performance.
Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (2022)
The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE was the most powerful gaming laptop we tested in 2021, so it’s very exciting to see the new 2022 Triton 500 SE refresh being announced here. It comes with Intel’s 12th generation core processor and the fastest NVIDIA Series 30 graphics options. Since the 500 SE has a very color-accurate display and a corporate-friendly design, you could also use it as a cost-effective workstation.
Dell XPS 13 Plus
Dell’s XPS 13 is one of the reference 13-inch laptops and has objectively pioneered many aspects of the ultra-light PC market. The new Dell XPS 13 Plus design is exceptionally minimalist and futuristic. We hope that the new keyboard is as performant as beautiful, but we’re not sure that removing the physical Function keys is a great idea. Definitely a head-turner.
Qualcomm Snapdragon Digital Chassis
Qualcomm has laid out a great automotive computing stack and strategy at CES 2022 in the form of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis. It comprises four customizable modules that offer maximum flexibility: ADAS, Cockpit, Connectivity, and Cloud services. We had an autonomous ride on a stretch of Las Vegas’ highways, and the demo was highly compelling.
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen3
The new Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen3 is the most exciting productivity laptop announced at CES 2022. Not only it has a large 17.3-inch primary display, but we think that the secondary 8-inch vertical display has great potential to boost the user’s productivity. Finally, this laptop comes with one of the fastest CPUs available to laptops in 2022.
OnePlus 10 Pro
The OnePlus 10 Pro is the best smartphone announced at CES 2022 as it features the new Snapdragon 8 Gen1 platform but, more importantly, a very promising camera designed in collaboration with Hasselblad. The camera comes with new fancy options for users who like to manually tune their imaging experience, with higher manual control for photos and videos. The results are captured in RAW Plus format to preserve as much data as possible.
BMW iX Flow Featuring E Ink
BMW and E Ink have collaborated to give us one of the most incredible technology demos at CES 2022. A BMW ix Flow’s had its paint replaced with a unique E Ink surface that can dynamically change colors (grayscales) using very little power during the switch. It’s a fascinating use of E Ink and a big win for material science and coolness.
Samsung Energy-Harvesting Eco Remote
Samsung’s presence at CES is an unstoppable freight train as it presented tons of new products, displays, and appliances. According to our data, what most captured the imagination of our readers is this energy-harvesting remote that not only charges with the ambient light but can also harvest energy from surrounding Wi-Fi radio waves. Everyone loves the idea.
Pebble Feel, Hot and Cold VR Experience
Pebble Feel might have hugely contributed to the VR industry by allowing gamers to experience (controlled) temperatures between 9 and 25 degrees Celsius. That will increase the games’ immersion: you can feel the environment. In the future, that might be an integral part of the gameplay. We imagine temperatures becoming even more extreme with more power.
GM Chevrolet Silverado Work Truck
Professionals now have an excellent EV Pickup option “for work” with the newly announced Silverado EV WT. We like the DC fast charge that adds 100 miles of range in only 10 minutes. The presence of electric outlets in multiple locations is super-convenient to run tools or even charge another truck. The sub-$40,000 price makes it attractive, but you’ll have to wait until spring 2023 to get your hands on one. For luxury lovers, the $105,000 RST is extra-comfy and powerful.
BeFC Bioenzymatic Fuel Cells
BeFC is on a mission to replace disposable Alkaline batteries with Metal-free, Plastic-free, and Safe/sustainable ones. To do that, they’ve created Biofuel Cells that make electricity with paper & enzymes (the white patch in the above photo). The enzymes convert glucose and oxygen into electricity and can be safely discarded after use as they are biodegradable. In theory, these Fuel Cells could replace some of the round batteries commonly found in small electronic devices.
