One of the features of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is that it has a dynamic display where its refresh rate can go up to 120Hz. It can also go down if it needs to conserve battery, but this is where Samsung confused a lot of users.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ can adjust its refresh rate from 120Hz all the way down to 10Hz. This is better than its predecessor which only went down to 48Hz. However, it looks like Samsung is now backtracking on their claims after it was reported by analyst Ross Young that Samsung’s official spec sheet shows 48Hz, and not 10Hz as they had initially advertised.

Samsung has since issued a statement explaining the matter where they say, “The display refresh rate was originally listed between 10 and 120Hz (10 to 120 frames per second), and we later opted to update how we communicate this specification in order to be in line with the more widely-recognized industry standard.Consumers can be assured there has been no change of hardware specifications, and both devices support up to 120Hz for super smooth scrolling.”
As to what this means for users, basically nothing’s really changed from the previous-gen Galaxy S21 smartphones. Obviously 10Hz and 48Hz is quite a big difference, but for those coming from the Galaxy S21, it looks like things are the same. It is possible the Galaxy S22 series is still more energy efficient thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but we’ll have to wait for the tests to find out.
