Motorola just introduced the Edge 2022 (aka Motorola Edge Gen 3), powered by MediaTek’s new Dimensity 1050 computing platform, which has an exciting ratio between 5G features and cost-efficiency. This phone is priced at $499.

The Edge 2022 (official page) is in line with the overall design language of the more powerful Motorola Edge 30 Pro ($600). Still, the latter is a higher-end phone with more expensive features such as the processor, battery charging, etc. They aren’t covering the same market.

Among the similarities with last year’s model, Motorola has kept the IP52 (what’s an IP rating?)

The new Edge 2022 brings significant improvements in 5G support (sub6 + mmWave) in this price range. Additionally, the new 144Hz 6.6-inch OLED display outputs perfect black and more vivid colors than the previous LCD did.

The rear camera system comprises a 50MP primary sensor supported by an ultrawide+macro 13MP secondary sensor. The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor with 0.7-micron pixels.

Overall, it looks like a good value based on the technical specifications, and we’re curious to see how this collaboration between MediaTek and Motorola performs in the real world. Most likely, quite well.
