Taking a screenshot can be useful if you’re trying to show someone something on your iPad, such as a website, an app, or if you’re trying to save screenshots of a bank transaction to use as a receipt, funny conversations, or if you want to save some screenshots of an app you’re developing.

Previously there was only one method of taking screenshots on your iPad, but with the launch of the 2018 iPad Pros and the removal of the Home button, there are different methods involved for the different models of the iPad.

How To Screenshot Your iPad Or iPad Pro (2017 models and earlier)

  1. Go to the screen that you want to capture.
  2. Ensure that everyone you want to screenshot is in the frame.
  3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  4. While holding it down quickly press the Home button
  5. Release both buttons

How To Screenshot Your iPad Pro (2018 models and newer)

  1. Go to the screen that you want to capture.
  2. Ensure that everyone you want to screenshot is in the frame.
  3. Press the Sleep/Wake button
  4. While holding it down quickly press the Volume Up button on the side of your iPad Pro
  5. Release both buttons

How To Use AssistiveTouch To Screenshot Your iPad

To use AssistiveTouch, you will need to enable it first.

  1. Go To Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch
  2. Tap on the toggle.
  3. It should turn green which indicates that it has been enabled.

Taking a screenshot

  1. Tap the AssistiveTouch menu
  2. Go to Device > More
  3. Tap Screenshot

If the screenshot has been successfully taken, your iPad’s screen should flash white and if you have the sound turned on, you should hear the sound of a camera shutter going off.

How To Find Your iPad’s Screenshots

  1. Launch the Photos app
  2. Tap on Albums
  3. Tap on the Screenshots album
  4. If you don’t have the Screenshots album, tap the magnifying glass icon and type “screenshots” and it should pull up all the screenshots that you’ve saved on your iPad.

How To Edit Your iPad’s Screenshots

There are two options you can choose when it comes to editing your screenshot on your iPad. One of which involves editing it right after the screenshot has been taken, while the other will require you to go through your Photos and editing your screenshot from there.

Once the screenshot has been successfully taken and if your iPad is running iOS 11 or newer, a thumbnail of the screenshot will appear at the bottom left corner of your iPad’s screen.

  1. Tap on the thumbnail and it will bring up the editor
  2. In the editor screen, you will be able to draw on the screenshot using the various tools at the bottom.
  3. Tapping the “+” button will also bring up additional tools.
  4. Once you’re happy with the edits, tap “Done” and select “Save to Photos”.

  1. Launch the Photos app
  2. Tap on the screenshot you want to edit
  3. Tap the “Edit” button at the top right corner of the screen.
  4. In the current window, you can make edits to the screenshot such as crop it, add filters, and also make adjustments to the brightness and exposure.
  5. To access the Markup features, tap the three dots icon at the bottom and select “Markup”.
  6. In the editor screen, you will be able to draw on the screenshot using the various tools at the bottom.
  7. Tapping the “+” button will also bring up additional tools.
  8. Once you’re happy with the edits, tap “Done” and it will be saved.

How to share iPad screenshots

  1. Tap the Share button at the bottom top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select how you want to share the screenshot. You will be able to choose from:
    1. AirDrop
    2. A list of apps installed on your phone. Scroll horizontally to the end and tap “More” if you don’t see your app listed.

How to delete screenshots on your iPad

While screenshots don’t take up a lot of storage space, over time as you accumulate more of them, it can add up. Deleting screenshots can be a good way to clear up some storage space and also to reduce the clutter in your Photos app.

Delete a screenshot right after it’s taken

  1. Once the screenshot has been taken, tap the thumbnail that appears in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  2. Make your necessary edits or share it with a contact
  3. When you’re done and don’t need it anymore, tap “Done
  4. Select “Delete Screenshot”.

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Select the screenshot you want to delete
  3. Tap the trash icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  4. Tap “Delete Photo”.

Multiple screenshots

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Tap “Select” at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the screenshots you want to delete.
  4. Tap the trash icon.
  5. Tap “Delete Photos”.

Using a third-party app

There are some third-party apps out there that give users a bit more control over when and how they want to delete their screenshots. The app we found to be the most effective is Screeny 2.0. It is a paid app with a one-time payment of $1.99 and gives you more control over the deletion process.

  1. Launch the Screeny 2.0 app.
  2. Tap “Screenshots”.
  3. It will show you how many screenshots are on your device.
  4. Tap the “>” button.
  5. If you’re using it for the first time, you will need to grant it permission to access your photos and videos.
  6. The next screen will show you all the screenshots on your iPad.
  7. Tap the down arrow button at the top right corner of the screen.
  8. From here you can choose to select screenshots from the time it was taken, or you can select all.
  9. Tap the trash can icon to delete.
  10. Once the screenshots are deleted, Screeny will show you how much storage space you have managed to free up.
