If you are old enough to have ANY cell phone, you can read the above message which says: "Please be respectful of others when participating in this thread." The name calling and cursing just shows that you're not mature enough to KNOW a good product from bad, and makes you sound very uneducated. My husband and I got this phone for our daughter who's 7, for when she's at camp, sleepovers and her Grandparents. It's perfect for her age group, it lets us stay in touch with her and we know she's a little safer then she would be without a phone. She's not at the age where she calls her friends all the time so the 4 numbers are ideal.
For the kids that are complaining about it only having 4 numbers, it's for younger kids not teenagers, little ones don't need 15 or 20 numbers to call their friends, it's for parents peice of mind and safety for the kids.

I'm 12 and i got this phone when i was 11. Every other one of my friends have real, full service cell phones, but my parents don't seem to understand. My dad got this for for me without even confronting me about it first, and i think its really ridiculous. I don't like it especially because all of my friends have full service cell phones. I honestly think this phone would be great for kids 5-9. Kids over 10 should not have this phone.

I am a parent myself. I am just sitting here cracking up over these comments. This is not a cell phone kiddies....it's a SAFETY PHONE....DUUUH to you kids too!! :-) You kids need to UNDERSTAND that. I agree with EVERY PARENT out there...especially comment #60. I am trying to decide between the Firefly or the Migo for my 7yr old who will be riding the school bus for the 1st time. He was in private school before and there was no school bus riding there. I am a safety conciouse parent. Can anyone (responsible person) advise me which phone I should buy? I do not want a contract for his phone though. Thanks.

Finally a sensible person (Comment #187). I bought this phone for my 7 year old daughter. She is enjoying the phone being at camp and knowing that she can get a hold of her parents just in case. For those who are asking, you can receive phone calls from any number and the charge last about 3 days.

You guys, parents NEED to come here because we actually DO want to know what kids think about it. I dont WANT to get my child something that stinks. I cannot believe there are kids whining about only being able to call 4 numbers with this phone. We wonder why kids expect so much and are willing to do so little. We, as parents, have given them everything...without making them earn it. What would have happened if we had tried that twenty years ago. You kids want a phone that calls more people? Get a job and pay for your own plan? You parents want society and the kids we're raising to change? Stop giving them everything they want just because they ask...or expect it! This phone was designed so that we, as parents, can be a little more certain of your safety, not so you can connect with friends. If we would tell you kids "NO" more often and worried more about your safety than you liking us we might not have a generation that expects everything for nothing. It might even be a great way for me to talk to my daughter now that her mother has taken her from our home and I get to see her only 4 days a month...a whopping 48 days a year. Yes, some of us love our kids enough that we will buy this phone so that we may even just hear the sound of your voice. You mean that much to us as parents. This phone seems perfect for disabled people, or seniors who are frail, who might fall and can't get to an existing wall phone. Looks like it can be worn as a pendant, and is light-weight. The 4 phone numbers could be to call a close-by family member or neighbor to come if there's a problem.
Verizon should be marketing to adults for their disabled/frail family members too.

Holy God, you guys! Sheesh - this was amazing to scroll through. I'm thinking of getting the Migo for my DD who is turning 8. I figure the 4-5 call choices is enough for a few years until she gets older, and then MAYBE she can upgrade. I'm purely buying this for peace of mind and for her to let me know when she is done practice or I'm running late - that's about it. And frankly, that's all she needs right now.
As for all of the youngsters out there who have posted and are generally PO'ed at their horrible lot in life (read - not having a phone or being stuck with a Migo), I didn't have cable TV when it came out and I'm no worse for wear. Remember, that which does not kill you makes you stronger... :)(and damn guys, try proofreading - y'all are giving me a headache with your lack of skills...)Peace!

After reading 152 posts I observed maybe 3 or 4 rational adults, even though a couple had a different opinion than myself. I think the bratty and spoiled attitudes of some of the children on this forum are caused by the irrational and immature attitudes of the adults. We can see what kind of parents these children have.
The migo is a device for safety and peace of mind...not a chitchat toy. Personally, I believe that no child has any business having a cell phone until they are least 16 and driving (at which point the child would pay for their own phone or would have a pre-paid phone). Yes, people, money IS an issue. Not all of us are well endowed financially and actually have to budget our incomes. When my 14 year old is not at school, she is on the house phone until the cutoff time, which is 8pm. I can only imagine what the bill would be like if she were doing the same on a cell phone. I know many of you think your children are very responsible, and perhaps some of them are, but the fact is that if you give these children an inch they will take a mile. Children need limits, and this phone provides that for them.
Children: You make the same argument that my children make...EVERYONE has a cell phone except them. I will tell you the same thing I tell them...if your friends don't like you or make fun of you because you don't have a "real" cell phone, then they're not good friends. Remember...there is a difference between playfully teasing and being seriously made fun of. When you are older and more responsible, responsible enough to hold a job and care for a vehicle, then the idea of a "real" cell phone would be more likely to be discussed.

Unfortunately, there are people out there who should not breed ( and their kids are posting on this thread.) These are the kids who bring guns to school and cause schools to go into lockdown. As a parent, I want the ability to call my child and make sure they are ok. I can afford it and it is my right. Sorry if you don't like it.
For the adults on the site. The MIGO can receive calls from ANY number, so you still need to have the responsibility talk with your child. ALSO, the second antenea on the MIGO is a GPS tracker. The word is that Verizon is launching the tracking service in May 2006. For $10-$15/month, a parent can use their own handset or a computer to locate their child. The can also set up perimeters in their neighborhood that will alert the parent if the child ventures beyond.
The phone was only $49 (with $30 rebate). It is only $9.99 to add my son onto our plan. Calls between all of our cellphones is free. Pretty reasonable for peace of mind.

Migo is not for socializing. If you want to chit chat with your buddies, use the house phone or get a job. Migo is for little kids ( my son is 7 ). It is for safety conscience parents. If I am running late picking my son up from tennis or soccer, I can call the Migo. If my son's school goes into lock down because some crazed kid is carrying a gun, I can call him. ( yes, the incident at Milwee Middle School played a part in my decision to purchase one ).
The 4 numbers ( actually we programmed 5 ( is plenty. Unfortunately, my son has figured out that he can get as many inbound calls as he wants and he knows his number.
So, for you kids on here who think you need to curse, GROW UP. For those kids on here complaining it is stupid, obviously you are interested in it if you visited the site.

My only thing is the firefly is cheaper. It stores 2o numbers in the phonebook and 2 dedicated buttons for mom and dad's number. A total of 22 numbers. Plus it can receive incoming calls as long as they are from one of the numbers programmed into the phonebook. I think this makes the firefly the better deal.

It's funny, I've seen families who live in trailer parks who somehow can afford to buy their kids these cellphones but can't buy a house, clothes, food etc. Where are the priorities of these parents? I think its really sad that our society even thinks our kids need cell phones. First of all if you are letting your young child away from supervision enough to need a cell phone then you aren't doing your job as a parent. Maybe if the parents were with their kids more often there would not be such spoiled kids with behavior problems. I think the idea of the migo is an awesome concept. its not a phone for kids 14 and older is for the younger kids around the age of maybe 9-13 who go to their friends houses to play or for a sleepover or to the mall for the afternoon and its purposes are for emergency only or to ask your parens permission. and you dont need 35 numbers when your 9-13 all you need is home#, mom's cell, dad's cell and a parents work number. and for the kid who made the comment about "false advertisement" its not a text message dumbo!!! its programed in the phone that way so you know which number your calling and then you press the talk button...

I must say, I am a young mother of 3. Ages 1, 9 & 11. I think the migo is a great idea and strongly agree with the other logical people here. If my kids were as rude and greedy as some of those here they would never see the light of day. I think kids today need a huge wake up call, since when did your parents HAVE to do anything for you, you should be happy they got you a phone and quit complaining because you can't cost them more money by running up a phone bill. Although the price is a bit much maybe they will become cheaper to purchase after they have been out for a while. I am a parent of a 11 & 12 yr old. I belive that a phone like migo would be a great choice if you are thinking of purchasing a cell phone. The way I see it is my kids are in school all day long with their friends after school they come home & are with me until they go back to school the next day so the only reason they would need the cell phone to start with is if they for some reason needed to contact me during the day while they are at school. If they need or want to talk to their friends then they can talk to them at school or they can talk to them at home on our home phone. So to verison I think that the migo is a great idea it has just the right amount of buttons to program numbers into. The firefly phone allows parents to program up to 20 numbers I think that that is too many numbers. If your child needs to be able to contact more than four people then you need to consider purchasing a phone where they can do that. Version don't change a thing.

My step son is 10, and our neighborhood is not the best. With this phone, he can stay late after school, or go to his friends house on his own, because we know we can reach him, and he can reach us, or his aunt and grandmother at the push of a button. Since he doesn't know his own number, it all falls into "IN" minutes, so it only cost $10 per month. That WE can deal with.
So for $10 per month, he can have some personal freedom, we get some peace of mind, and there is no chance he runs up a rediculous phone bill like my 16 year old did.

I like the IDEA of this phone for my 7 year old daughter, because she is riding the bus to her sitters house, BUT I do think Verizon should come out with one that holds ATLEAST 10 numbers for mom, dad, home, grandparents etc. NOT FRIENDS!! Also I noticed by just looking at the phone that the emergency button would pose a problem for my daughter, so hopefully Verizon and LG will figure this out quickly.

I think the price is a little outrageous for the phone but at the same time my daughter is 10...she does alot of cheer competitions and we have to go find her in the crowd..this would be perfect for me to keep in touch with her..plus she is old enough to go bike riding with friends. I'm not letting her run up a huge phone bill on a regular phone. When she is out bike riding or at a cheer event she doesn't need to be yappin with all her friends. One question though- can people call into the phone??

Heyy. It's me again. I agree with # 72 i think it was. The should have a Saftey button thing for the 911 button. I don't have a Migo but i am sure that it would be pressed by accidnt all the time. They should put a saftey proteceter button on it.

Heyy Y'all. I personally like Verizon Wireless as a mobile service but guys come one now......4 numbers including home,mom's cell, dad's call,and their work numbers just incase i mean if you have both a mom and a dad then that's 5 numbers already and kids have friends. The kids i know who have cell phone are responsable and are not on the phone all the timelike most parents and they all have real cell phones. I mean the firefly holds 20 numbers and when i first saw it i thought that was the stupidest thing ever and now that i saw the Migo that only has 4! WOW! You guys can do so much better.......you should come out with a migo #2 that has atleast like 35 numbers. All my friends have over 1 hundered #'s i just dont' know. I mean they sound really cool. But you should really take it from us. You would probally get a better system going if you had at least 30 35 numbers. You have to think of the kids today. You know we are not babies anymore. I am 11 years old and EVERY SINGLE ONE of my friends have a cell except me and i can pay for one it's just my parents won't let me buy one and have my own responsibilites. :( I really would like a cell phone and when i heard about tyhe Migo i got all excited thinking oh maybe if i like this my mom and dad will get me one but this is really......WOW! Remember the phone is for security reasons. This enables your parents to get in touch with you. This also enables you to get in touch with them. This phone teaches you responsibility, without running up a huge phone bill for your parents. How many of you realize that you still pay a bill for phones calls every month, after you own the phone? How many of you are working to pay for the phone? I just bought my son this phone and he is 12. I believe this phone is for those who can not pay for their own phone.
After reading many of your reviews, I can understand why your parents have not bought you a regular cell phone.
The purpose of this phone is not for you to chat with your friends, but with parents working, and teens being involved in sports, and other clubs, this is a way for us to keep in touch when needed.

Grow up children! Many of the comments on here show EXACTLY why your parents aren't getting you a regular cell phone. You think you are grown up but you still act (and talk) like babies. The Migo is not for socializing with your friends and running up huge phone bills....it is for security and keeping in touch with the people who need to know where you are...YOUR PARENTS. There is another option if you don't like the Migo.....NO PHONE AT ALL.

The Migo cellphone looks really cool. It also looks like a great phone to use in case of emergancies. My Dad says that "You're not old enoughh for a cellphone." I keep telling him it's only for emergancies, but he won't listen to me at all. Too bad for him. Too bad for me.

Ok, so I dont know a single thing about the "firefly" but, this MIGO looks pretty cool. Im a parent of an 8 yr old, fairly responsible boy, and this would be the ideal thing for him. For the most part, I think this phone IS for younger kids..10 and under. I would use it for emergency purposes most likely. If we were to go someplace public, Id have him carry it with him that way if we got seperated or something happened he would have a phone with 4 preset numbers and he could contact me, or help if he needed it.
Very stylish look, cute and compact...I think its ideal for kids :)
