32GB SD Cards in 2008
Posted on Jan 9, 07 02:10 AM PDT
Now that Panasonic has launched new SD-based camcorders, they need to pump some serious capacity in the SD format because the competition is using hard drives with capacities between 30GB and 60GB. So why would Panasonic use SD cards instead?!
For one, Panasonic has invented the SD format and they produce a lot of cards. Secondly, SD cards consume less power and are less sensitive to shocks than hard drives. That could result in better battery life (in theory). According to their roadmap, Panasonic should have 16GB SD cards by the end of this year and 32GB ones by the end of 2008.

I wonder if the Panasonic Camcorders will be able to have 2 or more SD cards inside of them.. That way you won't have to change single SD cards.

It's amazing to think that a 32GB SD card for my mobile phone has more memory that every ZX81 ever sold combined.
