Nokia N76 Hands-on
Posted on: January 09, 2007
CES 2007 - The trend is thin and nobody can ignore it, not even Nokia. The Nokia N76 closes a gap in Nokia’s offering in a stylish way. They will probably hate me for saying this but the Nokia N76 looks like the RAZR and the Sanyo Katana. I don’t say that in a bad way – the RAZR design is what brought struggling Motorola back into the game.
However, the Nokia software is probably much better. Just like any phone in the N-Series, the N76 comes with the S60 (3rd edition) Symbian OS, a solid foundation to build applications. The user interface is fast and feature-complete from Music replay to Decent web-browsing. Note that when I went to ubergizmo.mobi our logo appeared monochrome for some reason. I did not have enough time to dig into the options but nothing obvious came to mind.
The N76 also has a 2 Megapixal camera that can be used with the external screen, providing the feel of handling a compact digicam. The images were good, but do not expect miracles, this is a cellphone. Once you’ve taken some photos, it is possible to upload them to Flickr. If you snap a lot pictures, the phone can be expanded (via Micro-SD) to 2GB of memory. The phone is to be released in Q1 2007, no carriers partnership announced yet.

It's hard to tell how good the battery is without testing the phone. Keep an eye on the site, we'll hopefully have one soon.

Standby time is very short isn't it? With 700 mAh, how long does it take to enjoy all the music, radio, movies, camera, etc. before you're stranded with a flat batt?
I guess Nokia had to keep this beauty slim. But the sacrifices could hurt at times.
