Solar-powered grill for summer BBQs

What better way to take advantage of the hot summer sun than hold a BBQ? This solar-powered grill makes perfect sense and does not come with those fancy solar panels, using instead a special design that heats the grill's surface without any gas or coils. The mirrored coating was specially manufactured to focus all the sun's rays toward a panel in the middle where all the grilling action's at. Get one today for $240 before the summer crowd drives up the price.

I can buy an awful lot of charcoal for $240. Let's see ... yeah, about 10 years' worth.
That's not enough payback to make me consider solar, especially since solar doesn't work at night, early in the morning, late in the day, when it's overcast, etc. $240 for a cheap bunch of tin that cooks part time -- the manufacturers must be laughing all the way to bank at the fools who buy this piece of claptrap.

Umm...Helena...if you turn it with it's "back" to the sun, it will no longer be able to focus the reflected sun. Sure, it will still be hot, as it is a piece of metal sitting in the sun; it just won't be collecting rays and focusing then into one area to cook your food.

How in the world would you keep flies from landing on the raw meat while it is basking in the sun, waiting to start cooking? Gross!

At least a solar oven has a cover to keep vermin out of your food. No Solar BBQ's for me thank you!

I made a solar grill in 1977 for a class science project. I worked although it was a very crude one.

I was excited about it, but after seeing it, they'll have to do better than that. It doesn't look very efficent. Why isn't there any info on it?
