StrikeAlert warns of approaching storms
The StrikeAlert device lets you know in advance whether the approaching storms will carry lighting or not by simply sounding an audible alarm and lighting up a series of colored LEDs. In addition, it lets you know the distance of the storm within a 40 mile radius. This device is powered by a couple of AA batteries, working for up to 100 hours before a replacement is needed. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather stay at home during a thunderstorm and remain under my covers with a hot chocolate in one hand and a book in the other - anyone with half a brain would know that there's bound to be lighting outside! The curious can pick up the StrikeAlert for $79.99 from Outdoors Technologies.

This product works as advertised, BUT... it's unreliable and short-lived. The problem is the power/function button... it simply wears out after a short time. It begins with requiring more and more pressure, to activate. Then, it won't work at all! Very frustrating. It's a great idea, but they need to replace that switch with one that's stronger.
