Sleeping machine under research

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine are currently working on a sleep-inducing device known as the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) machine that sends a harmless magnetic signal via the scalp and skull, straight into the brain where electrical impulses are activated. Each burst of magnetism is greeted by a reaction from the brain that produces slow waves which are typical of deep sleep, ensuring the subject in question doze off peacefully without the help of medication. This method of creating sleeping waves on demand could be a potential boon to those suffering from insomnia. Imagine the army creating a sleeping gun that lets them take over a hostile territory through a bloodless coup.
