With the recent leak of the 3TB internal drive, it shouldn’t be too surprising to hear that Western Digital (WD) has become the first to ship a 3TB internal hard drive, namely the Caviar Green 3TB that offers 750GB per disk platter and is tailored for 64-bit platforms such as Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 64-bit that can see and boot from drives larger than 2.19TB. A special Advanced Host Controller Interface adapter is also includedso that 32-bit Vista and Windows 7 installations are able to access the full capacity of the drive. The Green edition spins at a slower 5,400RPM speed and is targeted at users who value power savings and low heat output. It features a juicy 64MB of cache and supports any SATA or SATA II interface. The drive is already available today and will set you back $239, though you can always opt for the slightly cheaper 2.5TB version at $189 if money is an issue.
