SONY DSC-H1 12X optical zoom digital camera

Sony is launching its Cybershot DSC-H1 a 5 megapixel digital camera with an impressive 12X zoom capability.

This optical zoom as a focal range of 36 – 432 millimeters (a 35mm equivalence) and with the Sony’s Super Steady Shot® optical image stabilization feature that counteracts camera-shake you can shoot sharp images. This feature benefits the longer shutter speed of the DSC_H1 used in low-light condition, reducing the risk of image blur from camera-shake. It has also a 32 MB of internal memory which is quite cool…

I like the zoom feature because it allows a lot of freedom: you can shoot landscape as well as portrait. This is great. I would like to have more resolution though, but I guess they wanted to remain in the $500 price range.

The camera also includes a five-area, multi-point auto focus to help you concentrate on the subject without mistakenly focusing on the backgroundas well as aperture/shutter priority and manual exposure modes for creative control of the image.

There are two optional lenses for wider angle and greater magnification:
The VCL-DH0758 model .7x wide angle conversion lens (25 – 300 mm) provides a wider field of view with virtually no color aberration or distortion. The VCL-DH1758 model 1.7x telephoto conversion lens (61 – 734 mm) offers greater magnification and according to Sony a crystal-clear shot. Both lenses will be available by mid-June for about $150 each.

The DSC-H1 Cyber-shot camera will be available this June for about $500.
