Yet another media card standard

With so many media card standards floating around the market, it is pretty disheartening to see Sony and SanDisk release yet another version to join the fray. Designed for use in digital camcorders, the SxS media card will come with superior data transfer rates in a smaller package when compared to previous generation of mass storage cards. The SxS card will take advantage of the ExpressCard slot in laptops, giving it the potential data transfer rate of up to 800Mbps. Word on the street has it the smallest capacity SxS card can hold up to 16GB of data. Initial batches of the SxS cards will hit the streets later this year at a yet undisclosed price. Looks like it’ll be time for everyone to upgrade their memory card readers…again.
