The Beat Dress as shown was part of a project conducted for a Fashion and Technology course at the School of Arts and Communication at Malmö University. 10 detachable patches on the dress equipped with an equal amount of LEDs provide the light, while a microphone and a tiny equalizer hooked to a microcomputer will do the job of picking up ambient sounds and music. Whenever any sound is detected, the LEDs will light up, keeping in step with the beat by flickering away. The 3D effect comes to the surface couurtesy of dual layers transparent cloth and a single layer of nylon which help disperses light from the LEDs to larger clusters. Not too sure if you’d want to wear this while taking a stroll down a busy street though, as you might be the cause of accidents instead.
