Samsung Develops Blue Phase Technology

Samsung holds the honor for developing the first “Blue Phase” LCD panel in the world, and this new panel claims to offer more natural moving images with an unprecedented image-driving speed of 240 Hertz (Hz). For folks who are interested in seeing just how this new LCD panel will look like and the impact on images it will have, they can always pony over to Samsung is planning to the SID (Society for Information Display) 2008 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, which will be held in Los Angeles from May 18 to 23 and check out the 15″ model.

The final product should be affordable since it was developed with an extremely cost-efficient design, doing away with the need for liquid crystal alignment layers unlike today’s LCD modes. The Blue Phase mode is able to create its own alignment layers, hence reducing the number of required fabrication processes to reduce production costs significantly. It is also able to hit a superior response rate of 240Hz without having to have an overdrive circuit. Mass production of Blue Phase LCDs will begin in 2011 onwards, so there is no need to hold off your LCD TV purchases till then.
