That’s the end of the Sony press conference – we waited longer than the show, but it was worth it to get the latest news in consumer electronics to you, dear reader.

Jan 7, 17:03 PT.

Sony will have 3D content playing throughout the show, so bring along your paracetemol just in case your eyes can’t take it. There will also be prototype 3D TV sets lying around the Sony booth, if you’re dropping by, do check it out if you’re interested.

As a conclusion, Sony shows the whole line-up again. Now we’re wrapping up and we’ll go take a first look at the products. Come back later to see more pictures,

We’re now onto downloadable content. Somehow it starts to feel like a repeat of a soap opera, except that we have different actors each time round. The new XBR9 Bravia TV line will be out this spring to offer unparalleled image quality combined with interactive content where you have the choice of watching whatever you want, whenever you want.

Here we go about being green and responsible again. Sony hopes that its new eco-line of BRAVIA TVs will be able to deliver HD quality and performance in a responsible manner, reducing power consumption by up to 40% and exceeds Energy Star 3.0 specifications. Now where have we heard that before… :P

There is an Eco Switch that offers 0 watt consumption in standby mode, while it has a sensor that will turn itself off when it doesn’t detect anyone in the room. These new eco-friendly TVs will hit the US this summer at a yet undisclosed price.

Now on to the BRAVIA line – Sony trumps its achievements with its OLED TV that measures no thicker than 3 credit cards. CES 2009 will feature a 0.9mm OLED prototype display, boasting 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and superior response times, with a couple of other prototypes as well.

The Vaio P Series makes its global debut at CES! Four units just popped up on the stage, and they look sweet with the 8″ LCD widescreen display. It tips the scales at just 1.4 lbs and is roughly the size of a business envelope. It comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity support in addition to Bluetooth, with built-in 3G connectivity as well. You can opt for Verizon Wireless’ data plan, and the integrated GPS function prevents you from getting lost in unfamiliar places, while a webcam lets you keep in touch with friends and family. It will be up for pre-order from tomorrow onwards, and will be available at Sony Style stores later this month. Will a $900 price point be too high for consumers, considerin
g the type of hardware they can get for that money? You decide, readers.

More Handycams now that offer a little bit of something for everyone, including the new hard drive and flash memory models like the HDR-CX100 and HDR-520V. The latter has a 240GB hard drive that can hold up to 101 hours of High Definition video, featuring embedded GPS and Smile Shutter technology. At least you now know where you captured the image of that cutie while making a cross country trip.

Moving on to digital imaging – Sony’s Alpha dSLR range, HD camcorders and digital cameras. There will be a quartet of digital photo frames released this evening, among them the DPF-X1000 and V1000, offering up to 2GB of internal memory and are HDMI compatible. You can transfer images to them via Bluetooth, doing away with pesky wires that love nothing better than to get all tangled up.

There will be two primary exhibit areas at CES this year for Sony – in-home and outdoors. The common thread between the two is building products that are practical, more flexible and sustainable for consumers. The out-of-home area includes an untethered Walkman model with smart software to know what’s your musical preference after spending some time with it. The X series features a 3″ OLED display for superior clarity on-the-go.

Up next is the Xperia X1 handset, nothing new here apart from an extremely handset. There will also be new Walkman phones llike the C510 that features Smile Shutter and 3G connectivity.

The usual diatribe about how Sony’s holiday season sales exceeded their expectations despite the global recession. With so many companies claiming that they’ve outpaced the industry standard figures, it makes me wonder how those figures come about. Guess it all depends on the way it is intepreted…

OK the soul thumping music has stopped – it is a bit too early to party at 4.30 in the evening with rave music anyways, even if this is Vegas. Tme for the press release to get going, so stay tuned for details on new developments from Sony. As we’ve noticed the trend in the past few press conferences we’ve attended today, Sony’s will share at least one similarity with the rest – being eco-friendly in their approach to consumer electronics. Green is the new pink.
