The AVerTVHD Volar MAX USB TV tuner has just been released for use with both the Mac and PC platforms, as this device is able to receive digital HDTV or unencrypted ClearQAM signals. It will ship with the AVerTV for Mac and Aver MediaCenter software, allowing users to schedule recordings and timeshift programming so that they won’t be able to miss out on their favorite shows even when they’re working late at the office for that night. Unfortunately, resolutions are limited to a maximum of 1080i, so you can forget about full HD for now. Shows are saved using H.264 compression which helps reduce the amount of storage space required, and you can even whittle down video to 320 x 240 resolution in order to make it suitable for portable devices.
