VIA Technologies Go Smaller Than Mini-ITX

Just when you thought that Mini-ITX is as small as it gets, along comes VIA Technologies with their new Em-ITX form factor that is meant for embedded system developers. The Em-ITX is the new standard bearer for super slim embedded devices, and we’re pretty sure if this catches on, we can brace ourselves for some pretty beefy (computing wise) albeit slim communications devices in the near future. The Em-ITX form factor is 30% more compact than Mini-ITX. Despite the apparent smaller size, the former is able to yield 200% more I/O real estate compared to the latter. Inside, you will find the Em-IO expansion bus which can be integrate with stackable, customizable, expansion modules. There is no word on pricing, but devices based on the Em-ITX form factor will be out from early next month onwards.
