Patent To Speed Up BlackBerry Browsing Via Proxy Server

Do you think your BlackBerry’s built-in browser isn’t up to scratch? Well, according to a patent application by RIM, they’re certainly looking into it, though probably not in the way that most of us would want. It seems that they’re looking to setup a proxy server directly on the phone, which would intercept the browser’s web requests, bundle, compress, and send them to a gateway (probably BIS), and it would deal with the packet data. Compressed data would then be sent back to the proxy, which would expand and deliver the standard HTTP fare to the browser. It can automatically download and cache the images in an HTML stream, so that they’ll load a lot faster thanks to the cache. Check out the patent online.
