Hitachi Maxell LTO Ultrium 5 data cartridge ships

Hitachi Maxell has started to ship its LTO Ultrium 5 data cartridge that ough to interest those who have a penchant to store large amounts of data on a single piece of physical media – after all, it has a maximum storage capacity of 3TB. Boasting a compressed tape drive transfer rate of up to 280MB/sec and maximum cartridge storage capacity of up to 3TB, the Maxell Ultrium 5 data cartridge is the result after four previous generations of LTO Ultrium technology, and the future is still some distance away with a targeted capacity of up to 6.4TB. No idea on pricing for this data cartridge, but it definitely isn’t meant for the regular computer user.
