We don’t mean load on your wallet, but this new kind of LCD technology by researchers over at Japanese chemical company Teijin and Yamaguchi University have touted that they managed to develop a new way which helps lighten the weight of LCD TVs by up to half compared to what they weigh today. This is made possible thanks to a thin layer of heat-resistant silicon dioxide on plastic, and since plastic is lighter than glass substrates, this is where the weight savings go. Hopefully their aim of commercializing such technology will come true within three years’ time as intended.
