Sony shows new 11.7-inch OLED panel, laptops soon?

Sony has demonstrated another 11.7″ OLED panel at SID 2010. While the sheer size of the screen is an eye-catcher, Sony has also managed to improve the lifespan of the display as well – one of the many challenges to mass commercialization of OLED displays (the biggest challenge being the size). Sony estimates that the display could last more than 10 years , which seems more than reasonable for a consumer electronics device… On the technical side, the resolution is still lower than today’s laptop with only 960×520, but the colors and contrast on OLED are fantastic. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will make it into laptops anytime soon, but we’re getting very close. [TechOn via oled-display]
