Kinect Manual Confirms Mandatory 6 To 8 Feet Distance

Scanned pages from the upcoming Kinect’s user manual have surfaced, and it confirms what some folks have been worrying about. The manual suggests that players stand about six feet (1.8m) away from the sensor in order to be visible, and if there are two people playing, they should stand eight feet (2.5m) away. While that won’t be an issue if your room isn’t cramped, it might become one in highly populated countries, such as Japan, since not everybody might have the luxury of a large room/house. It’s worth noting that the PlayStation Move is also said to have an 8 feet distance recommendation, which would mean a similar issue. Funnily enough, the Nintendo Wii doesn’t have such constraints as it doesn’t rely on a camera to determine the position of the user, so there are pros and cons to every solution.
