Amazon rainforest trees to be tagged with microchips

If you watch plenty of National Geographic, you will know that tagging animals in the wild can be a pretty exciting job, since all “clients” are different. Well, tagging trees are a whole lot more boring since they aren’t going anywhere, and neither can they strike up conversations like Ents. Still, that doesn’t mean the conservation effort in the Amazon must stop, as trees throughout the Amazon rainforest will soon be equipped with microchips in order to gather data in the event they are illegally cut down. Basically, tagged trees can be kept track of even when they’re logged, holding precious information such as the tree’s location, size, and who cut it down. Hey, if this method works in reducing illegal logging, we’re all for it.
