When you lose a DSLR at sea, it is fair to assume that you will never see it again. Fortunately, this was not the case for  a happy firefighter who is the owner of the Canon DSLR camera that was lost in Deep Bay, near Vancouver. The camera had been in the harsh ocean environment for nearly a year, but miraculously, the SD card was still operational, so when the camera was found by Markus Thompson. The photos were readable!

Markus posted the photos in Google+ and asked if anyone recognized the people on the photos. Incredibly (or not?),  one day later, someone told Markus that they knew the family in the photos and while the camera will never work, its owner has found something that he could never buy back: a snapshot of those moment spent with his loved ones.
