With the world moving in a green direction in most industries, it is nice to know that even when we are relaxing and enjoying the celebration of bidding adieu to the current year and greeting the new year, companies do take up the social responsibility role by offering eco-friendly alternatives. Case in point, Philips will again supply energy efficient LEDs to the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball. This comes across in the nick of time when the first phase of new US energy and lighting standards under the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) goes into effect, showing the world just how ready Philips Lighting is.

If you love trivia, then here are some fun facts about the Philips AmbientLED that will see action at the NYE’s Time Square Ball – New Year’s 2012 would also be the 12th consecutive year that Philips Lighting has served as the official Lighting Partner to the world-famous Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball. Expect to find similar technology in the Philips AmbientLED line of consumer light bulbs as in the Ball. An amazing 32,256 Philips LEDs will light up the glittering Times Square Ball, but all those will consume up to 80% less energy compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, now how about that?
