While Sony may have several lenses available for their NEX series of cameras, DSLR owners of other brands such as Canon or Nikon may be hesitant to make the jump due to amount of Canon/Nikon lenses they might have accumulated over the years. Well thanks to Conurus and their Smart Adapter, it will now be possible for Sony NEX owners to fit Canon EOS lenses onto their cameras.
Basically the Smart Adapter integrates a Canon EF mount lens onto the Sony NEX camera body. According to Conurus, this would allow the electronic aperture to be directly controlled via the camera body while keeping all the exposure modes available. In fact Conurus has gone as far to claim that the Smart Adapter would even support image stabilization should the Canon EF lens support it, along with EXIF.
Unfortunately it seems that while all those features are supported by the Smart Adapter, autofocus isn’t which might be a deal breaker for some. However if the lack of autofocus isn’t a deal breaker for you, you will be able to place an order via Conurus’s website for $399, but it appears that at this time of posting the Smart Adapter seems to be sold out.
