The Apple iPad as well as its sequel are truly beautiful devices – and no doubt it has helped sparked a rather lucrative tablet market in the process. Well, some tablets have managed to look great on their own, and the Pakistani military have looked at the iPad, being inspired to come up with a tablet of their own at the same time, resulting in the PACPAD. Costing around $200 which is less than half of what Apple or Samsung tablets cost, it will run on Google’s Android 2.3 as the operating system of choice – not to mention come with a one year local guarantee. How did the PACPAD come about, and of all places, at an air force base in Kamra in northern Pakistan? Avionics engineers who have some free time on their hands assembled the PACPAD 1 (Tony Stark proteges, perhaps?), and while it is still in the pilot stage, perhaps greater things are in store for this tablet if it could be mass produced – and marketed the right way, of course. Still, do not expect this 7″ tablet to usurp the iPad from its lofty position just yet.
