PSD320-PATA-SSD

Transcend, the company known for its storage and multimedia products have announced their latest addition to its line-up of solid state drives (SSDs). The SSD has been named the PSD320 measures 2.5” and has been designed to replace traditional 2.5” 44-pin PATA hard disk drives. According to their press release, the PSD320 is a value-priced solution that gives older systems the ability to upgrade to the enhanced performance and reliability benefits of Solid-State technology which Transcend seem to have taken seriously given its previous forages into the SSD territory.

The SSD which is known for not having moving parts will feature write transfer speeds of 104MB/s and 93MB/s is said to be able to improve performance of older equipment at a cheaper price rather than getting a new machine. While a 2.5” form feature is more common with notebook storage, the PSD320 will be suitable for use with other devices such as POS (point-of sale) machines, factory automation computers, medical equipment and engineering machines.

In addition to a higher shock resistance in harsh environments, the storage device will offer a remedy for what hard-disk users always worry about, a feature called Advanced Power Shield which prevents data loss in the event of a sudden power outage. For the time being, the PSD320 2.5” PATA SSD is available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB all of which come with a three-year warranty. What do you think about SSD technology and where it is going?
