There are several tablet options available in the market that offer high resolution displays. The iPad Air has a 2,048×1,536 pixel resolution display and Google’s Nexus 10 ups that with a 2,560×1,600 panel. What about 4K though? It may be off in the future but its certainly not impossible. Japan Display has announced that it has developed 10.1-inch LCD displays with an eye watering 3,840×2,160 pixel resolution (4K).

Obviously the biggest concern with a 4K tablet display would be battery life. Tablet users count on getting the best battery life so a display not only has to be stunning, it has to be power efficient as well. Japan Display has used low-temperature poly silicon in its 4K 10.1-inch displays to keep power consumption low. The company’s claims its power consumption is similar to that of a 10.1-inch WQXGA display based on amorphous silicon technology.

This isn’t the first time Japan Display has developed a 4K panel. Last year it showed off a 12.1-inch 4K panel at FPD International, however the latest panel has even higher resolution, with 438ppi as opposed to 365. With power consumption in check, this means that theoretically 4K tablets are possible with no cost to battery life. However, it may not be truly financially feasible at this point in time to go that way. Maybe in the not so distant future.
