We all have our favorite word processing software that we use to type up documents. For enterprise use, many turn to Microsoft’s Word application, and when it comes to writing code, there are other editors developers turn to, and for writers, it ranges as well.

There are plenty of writing software available in the market today, but surprisingly the famed Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin, revealed that he uses a DOS machine to write his stories on.

According to Martin in a recent interview on Conan, he revealed that his writing tool of choice is none other than the DOS application, WordStar 4.0. “If I wanted a capital, I would have typed a capital. I know how to work the shift key.” In other words he just needs a software to type things out on, and does not need all the fancy features that are typically bundled in word processing apps.

However this does not mean that Martin is completely oblivious to tech as he did reveal that he also had a separate computer in which he uses to check his emails and surfs the web on. It’s an interesting choice, but at the end of the day, we guess computers and software are just tools, but it’s the person using the tools that matters more.
