Cat-B15q-2While most users are concerned about how sleek or how thin their phone is, whether or not it will use premium materials like metal or glass, there are those who need a phone that is rugged. A phone that will be able to withstand a beating or two, a dunk under water, and so on. Caterpillar is a company known for their construction machinery, but they have also released rugged Android phones.

The company has recently announced an upcoming rugged smartphone called the CatB15Q, which presumably is the successor or upgrade over the CatB15 from 2013. Putting that aside, the CatB15Q will also be one of the times when Caterpillar will be rolling out the phone on an international level, so if you’re looking to get your hands on the handset and you’re not in the US, you should be able to find the device at a local retailer.

That being said in terms of hardware, the CatB15Q is a rugged device, as you undoubtedly are able to tell based on its design in the picture above. It will feature IP67 certification, meaning that it will be both water and dust resistant. It has also received Military Standard 810G certification, which means that the device will be able to withstand shock, drops, extreme temperatures, and category 4 vibrations.

The CatB15Q’s 4-inch WVGA display will also support wet finger tracking and a Corning Gorilla Glass protecting its display. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by a MediaTek MT6577 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, a 2,000mAh battery, and will run on Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone will be released this summer with pricing yet to be announced.
