If you’re the type that is particularly concerned about the amount of water you are using because you don’t want to waste it, then Rachio’s Iro smart sprinkler system might be something you could be interested in. As it stands, sprinklers turned on and off at scheduled times and doesn’t take into account a variety of things, such as the type of soil, location of your garden, the amount of shade, types of plants, and etc.

Rachio is hoping to change that with Iro, a smart sprinkler system that is currently available via Home Depot stores across the US for $249. The sprinkler system will work together with a smartphone app where users will be able to control all of the sprinklers that they have setup. The sprinklers will be connected to your WIFi network and according to the company, they have suggested that users get themselves a WiFi extender to ensure that their sprinklers are within range.

Through the app, users will be able to setup schedules as well as manually enable/disable the sprinklers as long as they are connected to the internet. So let’s say you’re traveling overseas and you heard that back home there’s a dry spell going on now, so instead of relying on the schedule, you can enable the sprinklers manually to ensure your lawn and your plants will have additional water to balance out the dry spell.

In fact users can also tell the app if the lawn has received extra water from rain, so that it will be able to adjust the watering times appropriately, thus allowing you to save water during the monsoon season.
