Typing up long documents and emails using the onscreen keyboard isn’t very fun. There is a certain lack of tactile feedback that just feels very different if you were to use a proper keyboard, which might explain why some users like portable keyboards or use keyboard cases with their tablets.

Now these cases and keyboards can be bulky and if you’d rather not lug such a big accessory around with you all the time, perhaps the TextBlade might be of interest to you. The TextBlade is basically a portable keyboard that’s smaller than an iPhone, thus allowing you to easily slip it into your pocket and bring it with you wherever you go.

How they have made it this small is because they have reduce the overall amount of keys needed. For example as you can see in the video above, multiple characters will share a single key, but thanks to the multi-touch technology, it will know which key you are trying to press when you’re tapping on the keyboard.

There is a modifier key that will allow users to access numbers and symbols too. Granted it might take some getting used to especially since it does not look like your standard keyboard design, but at the end of the day if portability is where you’re after, this could be it. The TextBlade is up for pre-order where the first shipments are expected to go out in February.
