d1dGoogle has released their Android M Developer Preview already, and it looks like it is time for Amazon to play catch up. What do we mean by that? The Fire OS 5 Developer Preview has been announced, and this happens to be an iteration of Amazon’s OS which is based on Google’s Android, and it will be making use of the Lollipop codebase.

Those of you who happen to be developers, you are able to give it a go at the moment and see how else you can enhance the lives of users who are rocking to Fire OS. As for consumers who are using an Amazon device, it is time to practice the tried and true value of patience – as you will have to wait until some time later this year as Fire OS 5 will see an official release then.

It is far from surprising to know that Amazon is making use of Android Lollipop as a base for its forked version of the OS, taking into consideration that the update to Fire OS which makes use of KitKat code only arrived at respective devices some time in the beginning of May.

For developers who are interested, the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview can see action on a Fire HD 6 or Fire HD 7 tablet, and if you do not have either to test it on, Amazon has got your back. They are offering a $50 discount on the Fire HD 7, but you will first need to be a registered developer before you are able to take advantage of this particular deal. [Press Release]
