once-about-a-time-in-shaolin

Not too long ago the world came to know that Wu-Tang Clan has made a new album but it’s not like any other album, it can’t be commercially exploited until the year 2103, which means you just can’t purchase Once Upon A Time In Shaolin online or in a store. However if you are a private collector with money to burn then you could most certainly pick up the only double album for a price “in the millions,” which one private American collector did.

This has been confirmed by Paddle8, the up and coming auction house through which the double album was sold. It further revealed that the sale was agreed back in May but it took several months to finalize contracts and additional legal protections to ensure that the secret album remains a secret.

Wu-Tang Clan co-founder RZA said in a statement that this marks “another moment in musical history,” adding that a significant chunk of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to charity. “From the beginning, we hoped that this concept would inspire debate and new ways of seeing creativity. Both of those goals have been achieved, and the ideas continue to evolve,” RZA said.

The price has not been revealed but the auction house says that this sale has made Once Upon A Time In Shaolin the most expensive single album ever sold, even topping the rare recording of Elvis Presley’s first song that was purchased by Jack White for $300,000.

Wu-Tang Clan did confirm in a previous statement that even though this album can not be commercially sold until 2103, safe to say many of us won’t be alive till then, the purchase will have the right to distribute the album’s content for free and hold free listening parties. However it’s unlikely that a mystery collector would invite us over to their house to listen to Wu-Tang Clan’s super secret album.
