You can buy just about anything on Amazon. The online retail giant offers tens of millions of products across dozens of different categories. While it has always been possible to purchase car accessories via Amazon, it has never been possible to buy an actual car, until now. Amazon has started selling cars online as well, however, this is just limited to one country at this point in time.
Amazon has signed a deal with Fiat Chrysler to sell three of its most popular models online in Italy. Fiat Panda, 500, and 500L happen to be three of the best-selling cars in Italy and customers will now be able to pick one up online via Amazon.
“The time has arrived to give consumers a new, more efficient and transparent way to choose a new vehicle,” said Fiat Chrysler’s Gianluca Italia during a press conference.
Once customers have finalized their options online, an Amazon representative will get in touch with them on where they can finalize the purchase and pick up their new car. The car will be ready for delivery within two weeks of the order being placed online.
It has long been expected that Amazon will eventually set foot in the car business as well. It has already launched Amazon Vehicles in the United States, an online portal which lets customers buy almost everything related to cars, except cars.
It’s unclear if Amazon will soon allow customers in other markets to purchase cars online as well.
