Computer Generated Image: Better Than Reality?
Posted on Feb 22, 07 01:07 PM PDT

Indonesian CG artist Max Edwin Wahyudi has created this super image of Korean actress Song Hye Kyo. While it is tempting to shout “victory" in the quest of making CG (computer graphics) undistinguishable from real-life, I think that this is not it.
First, the hair is not realistic enough (believe me, I know…), but the most difficult part in CG is to get the facial animation right. Each and everyone of us is an expert in human features and the smallest thing that is out of the ordinary thing or motion will attract our attention. This has been discussed for a long time in an hypothesis called “The uncanny” valley.
Anyhow, I tip my hat to Max Edwin Wahyudi for this nonetheless *fantastic* image.

Well, the mouth isn't quite right, either, but what's striking about this is that her eyes are really smiling, and that's no small feat (or you would think so, looking at the immense majority of CG production).
