Yello Strom Unveils Sparzahler Electricity Meter
Posted on Jun 30, 09 11:38 PM PDT

German utility company Yello Strom has started to ship a new Windows CE-based electricity meter that enables users to check out their current power consumption through the Internet. Known as the Sparzahler ("savings meter"), it is also capable of transmit data to third-party energy management software including Google's PowerMeter. The Sparzahler is similarly sized to that of a standard electricity meter and has been styled by the Ideo design firm. It will feature an integrated computer that runs on Windows CE, featuring an LED readout and a broadband communication module which is able to transmit consumption data to the utility once every quarter hour. Will these help you weed out vampiric devices in your home?
