Asus rolls speakers into monitor

The Asus PG221 is certainly an irony – anyone with a large enough desk space to accomodate a 22″ LCD monitor surely has room to spare for a decent 2.1 speaker system, but Asus decided to roll out the entire package consisting of a monitor and a set of speakers. The PG221 features a native resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 and boasts a response time of 2ms (great for gaming and watching movies), a contrast ratio of 1,000 to 1, and a brightness level of 300cd/m2. The lack of HDMI could be a turn off for some, but connectivity options include DVI-D, D-Sub, S-Video, composite and component inputs. Additional features consist of a 1.3 megapixel webcam at the top bezel and a trio of USB 2.0 ports. The speakers are nothing to shout about though. Pricing details of the Asus PG221 are still unavailable.
