In an effort to educate the people of the U.K. on just how much power they’ re consuming at any one time, the government will be offering free real-time energy meters to households that request for one. This goes hand-in-hand with the belief that a visual representation of energy used in kilowatts, pounds of carbon, and pounds and pence will create more impact when it comes to conserving power and cutting CO2 emissions than just lectures and advertisements. The quality of these free devices remain to be seen, but hopefully these won’t break after a short while. What’s most important would be viewing the amount of money being spent on energy alone in an easy-to-read and understand manner.
