New Samsung SpinPoint drives are quiet

Samsung has recently unveiled its SpinPoint line of hard drives that boast superior performance in a quiet package. The 3.5″ Samsung SpinPoint S166 drive comes with updated SilentSeek and NoiseGuard features, producing 15% less noise than competing 7,200 RPM drives. These new drives will be available in 80GB and 160GB capacities, pumping out 24dB and 27.5dB respectively. Power consumption is also enhanced thanks to a new fly-height adjustment technology, optimized actuator assembly, and an upgraded controller. While the new SpinPoint hard drives will be available this month, pricing details have yet to be ironed out.
